Meet Nelson (20220518-08)
History: Nelson’s owner died and the family didn’t want him so he was surrendered to the shelter.
Temperament: Nelson is a very sweet boy. Living in a neighborhood has been an adjustment for him, but he has come a long way! He loves to go for walks, but gets stressed if there are loud noises on the street or if men approach. He has even made "friends" with some of the dogs we see on walks and wants to say hello to them. He definitely prefers to walk in trails/forests where there are less stimuli and he can just enjoy the walk. Nelson would benefit having another medium to large size dog in the house to help him gain confidence and to have someone to play with too. Once he gets to know you, he is happy to curl up next to you on the couch and loves to be pet and get his belly rubbed.
no young children as this could stress him
women - yes
men - with a slow introduction until he feels comfortable
While they may play well with other dogs, slow introductions should be utilized.
but he has seen neigbourhood cats on walks and had no reaction
if startled or scared
but still needs practice (pulls)
but will chew soft toys and pull the stuffing out
a quiet suburban or country neighbourhood is preferred.
